Sonny Slide Maddams
Sonny Slide has been playing music for over 50 years. His present focus is on the acoustic blues of the 20’s and 30’s. As well as playing the music of the old blues masters, his repertoire includes contemporary blues and originals. He favours playing the blues on a National guitar.
Finger-picking styles rooted in the traditions of early Piedmont/Delta blues, including the likes of Big Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John Hurt, Howlin’ Wolf, Furry Lewis. Recent influences include soulful renditions from such as Bob Dylan, Keb Mo, Bruce Cockburn, and Steve Earle, and those he has studied with – bluesmen John Cephas, Pat Donohue, Roy Bookbinder, and John Jackson.
Jeff is a solo acoustic singer-songwriter from Kingston. With over 25 years of stage experience, his passion for music is evident in every raw and emotional performance. Along with original material, Jeff includes respectable covers of Delta Blues, Heartland Rock and Canadian-influenced Roots music.
Sweet Pete and the Heat
This collective of local musicians play with various bands, meeting each other at open mics and house parties. They all share a love of dirty, funky blues, inspired by everyone from Junior Wells, Muddy Waters and Van Morrison to lesser- known artists such as Lucky Peterson and Snooky Prior. Our goal? – get people dancing and that’s what we do.
Riley and Riley
We have performed in Memphis on Beale Street as regional winners of the International Blues Contest. With two CD’s completed, we are working on a third. Our original blues is loosely based on the Mississippi Delta sound, but modernized and edgy, with a heavy reliance on the shuffle and boogie beats.
ROUGHMIX gives you a tight blend of venerable rock and blues covers and original tunes in a fun, upbeat show. Playing gigs and charity events together for seven years, and hosts of the long running Royal Jam, Mike Pacey, Gary LaVallee, Mark Taras and Rene Vermette will put their chops to good use for you!
